KCRW Broadcast 755

Fanatic! A warm and overcast Saturday afternoon in Rutland, VT. The venue has a washing machine and dryer, so we’re all on laundry duty today. Road Manager Ward has a small turntable onboard, which affords us playback. We’re listening to a 1973 Don Cherry album he found today called Don Cherry & The Jazz Composer's Orchestra – Relativity Suite. I’ve never heard much 1970s Don Cherry, so this is great.

Shows have been going well. We’re five in, I think.

I had an interesting listening experience yesterday preshow. I played one of those strange albums The Fall released in 1996 comprised out alternate mixes, outtakes and live tracks. They were Sinister Waltz, Fiend With A Violin and Oswald Defence Lawyer. All of them were released on Receiver Records. I wonder if it was Mark E Smith just handing over a bunch of unused tracks to Receiver and the label making the best of it. I haven’t heard these in a long time. I put on Fiend yesterday and rediscovered how cool it is. I’m going to have to check out one of the other two tonight. Recommended.

For years, I’ve wanted to check out this ridiculous box set Robert Fripp released of King Crimson music years ago called The Road To Red. You can check out the contents here

It’s several hours of live shows from 1974. I have a lot of them on bootleg CDs and LP but the official versions are bound to be quite an upgrade. I’m going to listen to a show a day. I’m four in so far and it’s been great. It’s pretty much the same set over and over but there’s a lot of improv happening and it’s King Crimson, so that’s good enough for me.

The new Screensaver album Decent Shapes is really cool.

Marnie Stern’s album The Comeback Kid isn’t out until November. It’s a long wait but will be worth it. I got an advance of the vinyl and it’s great.

New Dion Lunadon coming soon. Systems Edge on In The Red

There’s lots to look forward to. At this moment, I’m looking forward to a show at 1930 hrs. Into it!

We’ve got a great show lined up for you tonight. Details below.

Have a great week and STAY FANATIC!!!
