Fanatics!

So good to be with you once again. After a few days of confusion, I believe the jet lag is releasing me from its considerable grip and I am thinking a little straighter.

I got back from the last several weeks of travel last Sunday. LA by way of Hanoi, Seoul and Tokyo. A nice seven-hour stop-over in Seoul threw a brick at my morale but I got through it ok. I got back to LA in time to put together tonight’s show that I had been planning for some time, do some laundry, eat and leave at 0630 hrs. the next day for NYC and onto Washington DC, where I am now.

Yesterday, I got out of the train from NYC, hopped into a mini-van with Ian MacKaye and away we went to Pennsylvania to pick up some furniture he had to bring back to DC. It was good to have some time with him to just catch up on things.

We got back to his place and I had a little time to play with his son, who breaks all land speed records for fun. What a great kid.

At this moment, I am still in Washington for another several hours. Soon, I will be in Milwaukee for the last talking show of the year and then back to LA with enough time to gather the jams and head to Tha K and do the thang. I am excited to be back with you all live. It’s been awhile.

Tonight, a mix of amazing jams that I think you are going to find to your liking. Jet lag had me up at 0400 hrs. today and I played the songs down for the third time and I am quite sure we have a monster show. Some SERIOUS guitars tonight, Fanatics. Check out Greg Ginn’s lead on Jealous Again. I don’t know if it’s Schider or Hampton ripping on the end of the Funkadelic track but I like it. Zappa’s blazoramic playing on Muffin Man is great too.

The promised Grinderman track delivers. I still have to get more time with that album. I have been bouncing around too much to really let it sink in. I will get at it over the weekend, if the Bowie Station To Station box set that is sitting in my office doesn’t take me three years to get through. How many CDs are in this thing? Have you seen this set? It’s this massive box, looks amazing.

One track that might strike you as slightly odd and hanging out there is the Badfinger song. Hey, we’re eclectic round these parts and it’s a great song. New Etran Finatawa this week, it’s a great track, great album. Some great rawness from Charlie Parker as well as some early Fall as we bide our time, waiting for the re-release of Wonderful And Frightening and we conclude until next week.

Looks like Tha K is going to have a Halloween gitdown on the 30th of this month at the Park Plaza. http://www.kcrw.com/events/masquerade-2010. The movers and shakers at the top of Tha K power-pyramid have seen fit to give me a time slot at this thing but have not yet told me when I will go on. I think they are trying to figure out when to place me so I cause the least amount of harm, insult and injury. Can you blame them? It’s a beautiful space, all Tha K heavyweights are going to be there, there’s no way you want to miss this. My mind is already spinning with crude audio slander I want to hurl and a way to spike Jason Bentley’s drink.

Tonight’s show is going to be a beast and Will ‘The Double B’ Bentley will bear the brunt of all my pain and suffering. Tonight’s cuts will be so fresh, you better bust out a box of Band-Aids and STAY FANATIC!!!
