Meridian Brothers: KCRW Live from HQ
Intimate performances, fresh sounds, and candid conversations with a view.
Meridian Brothers, a.k.a. the experimental project of Colombian guitarist and composer Eblis Alvarez, stops by KRCW HQ for a performance and interview featuring cuts from 2022’s Meridian Brothers y el Grupo Renacimiento.
Formed in 1998, Meridian Brothers has since evolved into a touring five-piece to bring Alvarez’s wild imagination to life. Together they channel popular Latin American rhythms, augmented by sampling techniques, elaborate effect processing, and Eblis’ quirky and theatrical vocals into the imaginary characters of the group’s Best Of 2022 album.
Album highlights like “Bomba Atomica” and “Metamorfosis” are in the mix alongside a conversation between Alvarez and Morning Becomes Eclectic co-host Anthony Valadez. The two touch on Alvarez’s past life as a professor, his childhood music conservatory experience, and creating the fictitious El Grupo Renacimiento.
