Fiercely independent purveyors of the deepest grooves, DRAMA, are the latest to roll straight over to KCRW from the Coachella Valley. The duo composed of vocalist Via Rosa, and producer Na’ael Shehade break down the emotionality inherent in taking the famed Gobi Tent stage for the first time years after attending as a fan. They gleefully share that full circle moment alongside plenty of talk about the tremendous satisfaction that comes from making music entirely on their own terms. Also, the joys of cooking.
And most importantly, they’ve come correct with killer tunes for their guest DJ set: The electro-crunch of Daft Punk’s “Da Funk” which never fails to hit just right, the delicious thrill of discovering powerhouse Indigenous songwriter Siibii via Tik Tok, and the unfailingly perfect road trip soundtrack of Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight.”
Plus, a happy 420 to all who observe. We’re keeping our sonic nods to the occasion light, but potent with Jamiroquai’s “Space Cowboy,” and Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs honoring Sun Ra with his solo track “Liquid Diamonds.”
