Architect Michael Graves did it. . . Now the French designer Philippe Starck has launched a line of household goods for Target stores. Is high-end design being knocked off its elitist pedestal by the mass-marketing of products by brand name designers? Monsieur Starck and others about "democratic design." Starck is best known in the US for his line of trend-setting hotels for Ian Schrager, including the Delano in Miami and the Mondrian here in Los Angeles. Our guests address "democratic design". Paola Antonelli, Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and responsible for some of MOMA's most interesting exhibits in the last decade. Alice Cuneo, the National Retail Editor for Advertising Age, joins us from San Francisco.
