Ruben Mkrtchyan is a melon farmer in Onyx, California. He grows Uzbek varieties of melons on a small farm near Lake Isabella. He says the melons need dry soil, hot days and cool nights. You can find his melons at the Wednesday Santa Monica Farmers' Market.
