Cookie's return has been a blessing to an otherwise so-so start to the TV season. Fox's hit Empire came back huge -- more than 16 million people turned in to watch. Other shows haven't seen near the same level of success. The Fox show Scream Queens, which had been heavily marketed for months, bowed to disappointing numbers, as did Minority Report. It's not all terrible news -- on ABC, The Muppets did well, as did Blindspot on NBC, though its numbers were bolstered by a lead-in from The Voice.

Best popular film category proves not so popular The Academy has put its plan to introduce a new category for best "popular" film on indefinite hold. It will go forward with presenting 6-8 awards during commercial breaks in order to streamline and shorten the TV broadcast of the ceremony.
