The Movie Haves and Have-Nots

Hosted by

John Horn of the Los Angeles Times talks with ATC host Steve Chiotakis about how  this Summer there's been one huge hit movie and then everyone else. The Avengers accounts for over one third of all tickets sold. That is a massive piece of the pie and it's left little for other films. But it may not simply be that The Avengers is taking up a lot of space. Whether it's because of social media or the public's interest in other entertainment or a total lack of interest in what Hollywood is making, some movies are dead before they hit theaters, and movies with previously bankable stars like Rock of Ages, with Tom Cruise, and That's My Boy, starring Adam Sandler, have been total failures. Meanwhile, smaller movies like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom have legs. (Kim Masters is away.)
