A few weeks ago, I was boarding a small airplane headed from Miami to the Florida Keys. It was one of those old-fashioned planes – small inside, with a propeller hanging from each wing – and if you're a nervous flyer, which I'm not, it's sort of an alarming thing to walk across the tarmac to what looks like a rickety toy.
