Trestles saved from 241 toll road!

Hosted by

Lost in the post-election daze in Orange County was a significant development regarding Trestles, a world-famous surfing spot just across the Orange County border in San Onofre State Beach. On Friday, the Foothill-Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency announced it was settling a group of lawsuits blocking the agency's plan to build a 241 toll road extension right through the San Mateo creek watershed and near Trestles. Part of the settlement states the TCA promises to build any extension far away from the surf spot, and away from other protected public parks. It represents the end of a 15-year battle by environmentalists and surfers against developers and politicians. What lessons can other preservationists fighting for the last remaining open lands in Orange County learn from this?
