'Citizenfour'

In May of 2013, Edward Snowden flew to Hong Kong and quietly ensconced himself in a room in an upscale hotel. He wanted to be outside the reach of American authorities when he released his huge cache of explosive, top secret documents. The documents exposed the U.S. government’s domestic spying programs. Eight days later, Snowden fled to Russia. Guardian columnist Glenn Greenwald and documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras were with Snowden in Hong Kong for much of that week. Last year, Poitras released a full-length documentary about Snowden and the government’s spy programs called Citizenfour. We discuss the film as part of our weeklong series on this years Oscar-nominated documentaries.
