Merrick Garland, President Obama’s pick to fill the seat on the Supreme Court left vacant after the death of Antonin Scalia, gave an emotional introduction to the American public. But Garland is anything but an emotional pick. He’s a moderate judge from the D.C. Circuit Court who’s been on Obama’s short list for years. At 63, he’d also be the oldest nominee in decades.
