If Clinton Clinches Nomination After New Jersey’s Primary, Will California Matter?

With just a little more than a week from the June 7 primary, all three presidential hopefuls have their eyes on California, and had their feet on the ground in the Golden State on Friday. California isn’t the only state to hold a Democratic primary on June 7. New Jersey also votes on that day, and its polls close hours before California’s do. Therefore, it’s possible that the Democratic race could be sewn up before all California voters have gone to the polls. Hillary Clinton could reach the 2,383 delegates needed if she wins New Jersey, but a loss in California would be a huge blow. And according to the latest poll from the Public Policy Institute of California, Bernie Sanders is tied with Clinton among likely voters.
