Doug Aitken brings his large-scale installations inside at MOCA

Artist Doug Aitken is used to working on a large scale. Originally from the South Bay, his studio is now in Venice. But he’s done big works all over the world. He installed a video installation on a huge barge floating in the ocean off the coast of Greece. He wrapped the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington DC in video projections. He turned a 4,000 mile train trip across the US into a series of performances and art happenings. But in LA, the Museum of Contemporary Art asked Aitken to squeeze some of his monumental work into a gallery space. Doug Aitken’s exhibit at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA in Little Tokyo is a survey titled “Electric Earth,” and it includes seven large, moving-image installations.
