Barbara Williams and “The Hope in Leaving”

Hosted by

Canadian actress Barbara Williams has had a long successful career in film and television, but her early years were full of struggle and loss. In her new book The Hope in Leaving Williams writes that, as the daughter of a logger, she and her family were constantly on the move and facing extreme poverty. In their conversation, Williams tells Scheer about the traumas members of her family experienced, and how some were not able to overcome them. She also talks about some of the fortunate breaks that allowed her to move away from her family and begin an ultimately successful acting career. In addition, she discusses her ambivalence about having an indigenous father as a young woman.
