Another winter storm resulted in another round of evacuations this week, but the “atmospheric river” that hit Southern California did not pack the expected punch. Highway 101 stayed open, no houses were swept away and damage was minimal. One thing it did do? Fill local reservoirs.

Demoted principal leads to crusade for a recall election 13 MIN, 55 SEC

Angry parents from San Marcos High School are banding together to try to recall certain Santa Barbara Unified School District school board members who voted to oust principal Ed Behrens, despite enormous support for him. No one is quite sure why the school board decided to demote Behrens, but the move comes on the heels of an investigation looking into male students who posted derogatory comments about their female peers online.

A Japanese detention station in our own backyard 6 MIN, 23 SEC

During World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the relocation of those considered a threat to national defense, including over 100,000 Japanese, German and Italian immigrants. The Tuna Canyon Detention Station in Tujunga was the closest detention facility to Santa Barbara and Ventura, but few people know it existed.
