Hollywood News Banter

Hosted by

Matt Belloni, executive editor of the Hollywood Reporter joins Kim Masters to discuss top entertainment news stories of the week.

  • At CinemaCon, James Cameron announced there will be a whopping four Avatar sequels, with the first one hitting the big screen in 2018. The first sequel was initially supposed to air in 2014. Other filmmakers might not be able to get away with such a bold pronouncement, but the industry has learned not to doubt Cameron.
  • Also at CinemaCon, the Sony presentation went over well. A lot is riding on their new, very expensive film Passengers starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt.
  • The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is getting a new showrunner. Since the show started, Colbert has been pulling double duty as host and showrunner. Now Chris Licht is coming over from CBS' This Morning to oversee production of the The Late Show. Colbert's show has been consistently beaten in the ratings by Fallon, and sometimes by Kimmel.
