Bitcoin's Founder, and Runaway Production

Hosted by

The creator of Bitcoin has been discovered... or has he? And where have all the film jobs gone? Newsweek magazine reports that the man who reportedly created the Bitcoin virtual currency is 64 year-old Temple City resident Satoshi Nakamoto. But then, Nakamoto told the Associated Press yesterday that he is not the creator of Bitcoin, adding further mystery to the story of how the world's most popular digital currency came to be. KCRW's Steve Chiotakis discussed the confusing turn of events with Chris O'Brien, reporter for the LA Times. He also spoke with KCRW's own Kim Masters, host of The Business, about a new report from Film L.A. that says the local production industry is being devastated by runaway production. Just eight percent of big budget Hollywood films were made here last year, down from 65 percent in 1997.
