FROM THIS EPISODE

In the new FX comedy The Comedians, Billy Crystal plays a veteran comedian who gets reluctantly paired up with a younger, "edgier" comedian (played by Josh Gad) to do a late-night comedy sketch show (for FX).

In the show, both Crystal and Gad are playing versions of themselves, which was a tough thing to navigate, says The Comedians executive producer and showrunner, Ben Wexler.

Luckily, Wexler had some experience with generational comedies, having previously worked on The Good Guys with Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks. And the chemistry between Crystal and the more touchy-feely Gad was undeniable: "I can get a lot of mileage out of being uncomfortable," Crystal says.
