Dan Gilroy: Nightcrawler

Hosted by

Jake Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, an ambitious young man who becomes obsessed with the LA crime journalism beat, making videos of criminal activity and accident scenes and selling them to television news channels. For writer/director Dan Gilroy, Nightcrawler is about the dog eat dog nature of this country today, where people are struggling in order to find their passion and make a living. But unlike a lot of eager young millennials searching for careers, Gyllenhaal's Lou is a maladjusted sociopath. Gyllenhaal lost thirty pounds to play the role, often biking or running to and from the set every day. Still, Gilroy says, "I approach the film as a success story." Bloom may be a psycho, but he's still relatable.
