Medical Science, Religion and Politics; Mid-East Violence

Segment #1: Fighting in Middle East Continues into Eighth Day
With Hezbollah rockets landing in Nazareth and Israeli attacks in Southern Lebanon creating a "humanitarian crisis," there are reports that the United States has given Israel the green light to accomplish maximum damage. On CNN, Isaac Herzog, Secretary to Israel's Security Cabinet, said that Israel would continue its attacks "to uproot this terrorist organization" until it achieves its objectives. We update the ongoing violence with an expert on the Israeli-Arab conflict and reporters in the Middle East.

Segment #2: Stem Cell Bill Gets President Bush's First Veto
In his first term, President Bush ordered strict limitations on federal money for embryonic stem cell research. Now, both houses of Congress have contradicted his wishes. Yesterday in the Senate, conservative Republicans, including Utah's Orrin Hatch and Majority Leader Bill Frist, were major supporters of a bill that would provide federal dollars for research involving human embryos. Today, the President vetoed the legislation; nobody thinks either the House or the Senate can muster the votes it will take to override the President's action. We hear what Bush says and find out what his veto could mean for medical science and for November's elections.
