Malia Obama is putting a spotlight on the "gap year," routine in Europe but still a luxury in this country.

Malia Obama's parents both went to Harvard, so it's no surprise that she will be going there, too… with one exception. She'll be taking a year off after graduating from the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC. It turns out that more and more US colleges are encouraging what's called the "gap year."
