Local Law Enforcement under the Microscope

Hosted by

On March first of this year, an unarmed, black man named Charly Keunang was tased and then shot to death on Skid Row by officers of the LAPD. Video shot by a bystander went viral. At a news conference, Chief Charlie Beck defended the killing because the man grabbed one officer's pistol. The LAPD has not released video recordings from body cams worn by two of the four officers involved. But Jeff Sharlet says he has seen them. He also says he's reviewed recordings of the officers telling detectives what happened. Sharlet is an associate professor of creative writing at Dartmouth College. He reported his findings in GQ magazine in an article titled "The Invisible Man."
