Commission Recommendations on LA City Finances

Hosted by

Before last year's mayoral election, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson appointed the 2020 Commission to assess what's wrong with the city and recommend what should be done. In January,  the Commission reported that 40% of residents are living in "misery" -- without much help from City Hall. It identified a job crisis, reduced services and fiscal instability, among other problems. That same commission made specific proposals today, including a raise in the minimum wage, new oversight for the DWP and merging the Ports of LA and Long Beach. The commission, which consists of 12 familiar power players on the local political scene, is co-chaired by former First Deputy Mayor Austin Beutner and Mickey Kantor, local attorney and former Commerce Secretary. We hear they've already created some lively controversy. Have they come up with ideas that could make a difference?
