US officials say the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e Sharif is likely to fall to the Northern Alliance, a battlefield victory in the war on terrorism that could change the lives of some ex-patriots who've been waiting for the Taliban to be driven out of their country. Majeed Mansouri was interpreter for General Ahmad Shah Massoud, the Northern Alliance leader who was killed by suicide bombers just before September 11. Khushal Arsala is the nephew and former comrade-in-arms of Pashtun resistance leader Abdul Haq, who was executed by the Taliban two weeks ago.
