In the effort to curb heart disease, UCLA and USC are transforming markets in East LA and paying grocers to provide healthier choices than the neighborhood is accustomed to — or so they believe. But some traditional markets already carry unsweetened almond milk and soy products. They even have sales on vegetables. Is East LA really a "desert" for healthy food?
