LA's 5th Council District runs from Studio City through Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys to Westwood and the Westside. In the toughest and potentially most expensive of this year's city council campaigns, 11 candidates spent a record 1.4 million dollars vying for the seat held by Mike Feuer who's running for City Attorney. The June 5 runoff will pit former State Senator Tom Hayden against former federal prosecutor Jack Weiss. Tonight the 18-year veteran of California politics debates a former prosecutor who's never served in elected office.
  • Newsmaker: Survey Shows Energy Crisis Undermining Confidence in CA - A recent poll conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California shows a dramatic drop in the number of people that thought the state was headed in the right direction. Mark Baldassare, who directs the poll, says energy has replaced education as the most troubling issue. Governor Davis also got high marks - but for the wrong reasons.
