Legislators Battle to Cut $10 Billion from Budget

Hosted by
Californians are about to find out just how much state government means to them, as the State Legislature looks at $10 billion in possible cutbacks this year. This week, a special legislative session gets down to the painful business of cutting this year-s programs to pieces. We hear from Democrat Jenny Oropeza of Long Beach, who chairs the Assembly Budget Committee, and Republican John Campbell of Irvine, its Republican vice chair about what the financial agony will mean for education, healthcare and the possibility of new taxes.
