Only Female Fire Recruit in LAFD Resigns

Eric Garcetti has suspended the hiring process for firefighters — drastic action when the City of Los Angeles has not hired new firefighters since 2009 and a short-handed department is desperate for new personnel. But, after $20 million in payouts for race and gender discrimination, the LA Mayor says it's time to recruit a class that represents the demography of the city. Less than 3% of firefighters are women, and the lone female in the current training class has resigned; 25% of the remaining male recruits are related to firefighters already on the job. Do race and gender matter?
