Can We Get the News without the Paper?

In Los Angeles and Orange Counties, it traditionally was the Times and the Register that established the news menu every day.  Local TV and radio stations followed up on what the papers reported, adding their own individual enterprise and commentary.  Even in the digital age -- with competition from more alternative sources -- it’s been the papers and their websites that have been the dominant sources of local news. How long can that last?  Last week, the Orange County Register asked reporters to help deliver papers on Sunday.  Also last week, the LA Times canceled set vacations and sick days, explaining that reporters will now have the “flexibility” to “make work-life balance decisions for themselves.”
