United States of LA: Crenshaw

Hosted by
We continue our journey through the many worlds of Los Angeles with the third program in KCRW's documentary series "The United States of Los Angeles." We'll explore what's been called L.A.'s "Forgotten Spine": Crenshaw Boulevard and its surroundings. We'll investigate the rich history of the area and examine the issues confronting one of the core black communities in L.A. The Crenshaw District is mixed, and we'll meet some of the locals from established residents of the nearby comfortable neighborhoods of Baldwin Hills and Ladera Heights to some of the black immigrants establishing a new life, to business owners in Leimert Park, the emerging heart of African-American cultural expression.
