OC Line: More problems for San Onofre’s nuclear plant

Written by

gustavocroppedIt’s been more than a year now that both reactors of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant, between LA and San Diego, has been shut down.

Southern California Edison officials have been trying to fix leaky tubes in the generators there that led to a radiation leak last January and the discovery of even more leaky tubes.

The shutdown has emboldened anti-nuclear activists, who say the plant is not safe, and Not-in-my-Backyarders, who say the plant is too close, to demand San Onofre’s permanent shutdown. But closing the plant for good would deprive Southern California of a big contributor to its energy source.
