Bird extinction? Scientists say headlines are overblown

In a recent study, scientists estimate that the North American bird population has dropped by roughly 29% since the 1970s. That’s nearly three billion birds. Published along with the findings: #bringbirdsback. 

This spurred scary headlines about the vanishing bird population, which is giving some ecologists pause. Does the science support such dire language such as “crisis,” “threat of extinction,” and “species apocalypse?”
