Actress Regina Hall was told not to take the role of Brenda in the “Scary Movie” franchise, because it read like Hollywood’s stereotypical Black female character. But the role paved the way for her string of romantic comedies, including the successful “Girls Trip” where she showed off her serious side. Hall’s latest project, Showtime’s “Black Monday,” is a return to the over-the-top style of comedy. She plays a brilliant 1980s stock trader during a time when Wall Street was very male, and very white.
