US democracy is resilient despite doubt and conflict, says professor

“We’re ailing, and I think we have to find our cure,” says Harvard Professor Danielle Allen about the American democractic institution. Image by David Mark from Pixabay

A video shows that on a Texas highway over the weekend, a caravan of Trump supporters in pickup trucks intimidated members of the Biden-Harris campaign. The FBI is investigating the incident.

Harvard University professor and political theorists Danielle Allen says, “Every election is hard because there are always winners and losers. And the real challenge is that democracy has to be a place where winners can be decent to losers, and losers can recognize that the conversation continues.”

She says American democracy is a resilient institution, and it’ll need its constituents to work towards a better future.
