When the Whitney Biennial opened last week in New York, a young black artist named Parker Bright walked into the galleries and stood in front of a white woman’s painting of Emmett Till. “Black Death Spectacle” was printed on the back of his shirt to protest the painting. Some have asked the Whitney to take the painting taken down, but others say that’s censorship.
