Armenians March for Recognition

Hosted by

From Kim Kardashian to the Pope, the cause to recognize the Armenian genocide has gotten vocal support in recent weeks, leading up to today’s centennial anniversary. Armenians point to solid evidence that genocide, at the hands of the Turkish government, indeed took place, in a brutally systematic way. But Turkey claims it was NOT genocide, only sporadic killings that took place during a relocation effort. And its ally, the United States, has also avoided using the term "genocide" officially, despite campaign promises made by President Obama. It’s a huge issue among the Armenian population of Greater Los Angeles. Our area is home to the largest population of Armenians in the US. Ara Khachatourian is English editor of Asbarez, a bilingual newspaper that serves the Armenian-American community. He spoke to KCRW's Steve Chiotakis.
