Immigration Reform and President Bush's Guest Worker Program

Hosted by Warren Olney Nov. 22, 2004
In a conversation this weekend with Mexico-s President Fox, President Bush put immigration reform back on his agenda. A plan he proposed in January was designed to appeal to Hispanic voters, but he put it on the back burner because of opposition from his own Republican party. The key is a three-year work visa for some of the millions of illegal immigrants now living in the United States. They could then apply for permanent legal status, but only if employers had written letters declaring that US citizens were not available to fill their jobs. We hear more about the President's guest-worker program, undocumented workers, government services paid for at taxpayers- expense, and border security from immigration rights advocates and proponents and opponents of immigration reform.
