Preview of the California Gubernatorial Campaign

Hosted by
Republican candidate Bill Simon wants this year's gubernatorial election to be a referendum on incumbent Democrat Gray Davis. Meanwhile, Davis is trying to put Simon on the defensive by raising Simon's conservative stands on abortion and gun control. This week, the two candidates addressed doctors at a California Medical Association meeting in Sacramento, expressing very different views on the state of healthcare in California. Will this year's race for Governor be a gentleman's exercise in issue-oriented campaigning or will it return to the brass-knuckle tactics that have characterized California politics in recent years? We talk with the chairs of both parties about what voters can expect.
