Santa Monica Policing in the National Spotlight

Hosted by

Last week, Santa Monica resident Fay Wells wrote an opinion column for the Washington Post, headlined, "My white neighbor thought I was breaking into my own apartment. Nineteen cops showed up." This happened after a neighbor called to report a suspicious male with a suitcase trying to get into a nearby apartment. It turned out that Wells had lost her key and called a locksmith to help open her door. The story went viral on social media, and the incident has been covered by the LA Times and other newspapers.

Santa Monica police and other city officials declined to come on our program. But they released a tape of the incident more than 40 minutes long.
