Last week-s videotaped police beating of auto-theft suspect Stanley Miller has LA-s African-American community on edge. Over the weekend, politicians, clergy and others discussed the case at a meeting called by City Councilman Martin Ludlow. Today, Presidential candidate Al Sharpton, who will lead a "justice and peace" rally tonight at Faith United Methodist Church, met with LA Police Chief William Bratton and they both agreed that last week-s beating of a black suspect by white cops in LA is a -national issue.- Najee Ali of Project Islamic Hope called the meeting -just what the community needed- to defuse a tense situation. Warren Olney updates last week-s incident in light of the federal consent decree on reforming police behavior with Councilman Ludlow, civil rights activist Joe Hicks, and Joe Domanick of USC's Annenberg Institute for Justice and Journalism.
