From Amores Perros to his newest film, Biutiful, director Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams, Babel) finds something new and fresh with each film. He tells us how.

Iñárritu responds to the term "death trilogy" that's been used in reference to his films, his recurring theme of fatherhood, Biutiful as a love story between Bardem's character and his kids, the challenge and "truthness" of non-professional actors, illegal immigrants in Europe, and the logic of shooting in chronological order. He also discusses the football commercial he directed for this year's World Cup, melodrama and telenovelas. As he talks to Elvis, he realizes how this experience synthesized into the story of Biutiful.
