Justin Lin got his start directing indie films, like 2002's Better Luck Tomorrow, about a group of over-achieving Asian-American students who decide to spice up their lives by dipping into a little criminal activity. Now, Lin's forte is big studio films, having directed four of the six in the Fast & Furious franchise. In this conversation, recorded in front of a live audience at the LA Film Festival, he talks about how he still brings that gritty, character-driven, DIY ethos to every film he does, regardless of the budget.
