Marilynne Robinson had not published a novel in twenty years when she wrote Gilead, which went on to win the Pulitzer Prize. How peculiar, interesting and lovely that she should follow it so quickly with Home, a novel that takes place in the same Iowa town and at exactly the same time as Gilead. Why did her imagination require this second novel to complete her vision?

Note: Part II of Robinson's interview will not be broadcast live on KCRW, as it will be pre-empted by holiday programming. It will be archived online and be available for podcasting.
