Climate Change, Candidate Talk and Tragedy in Charleston

Were the Charleston murders an act of terrorism or a hate crime?

A white supremacist shot and killed nine churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina. Should he be prosecuted for hate crimes or terrorism? Rich Lowry says we should take him at his word and consider it an act of political terrorism. Does flying the Confederate flag on the grounds of the state Capitol and maintaining other Confederate symbols contribute to racism in the South? In the New Yorker, David Remnick says the shooting should be considered equal to a lynching. Donald Trump declared he will run for president again and said Mexicans who are immigrating to the United States are "people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists." Should he be considered a serious candidate and given air time, even on our show? Lizz Winstead said "Donald Trump just replaced bed bugs as America's number one pest." The Pope wrote an encyclical to Catholics around the world, warning of the dangers of climate change. Bob Scheer called it an incredibly powerful ethical statement.

Josh Barro (New York Times) moderates from the Center. On the Left is Robert Scheer (TruthDig.com). Rich Lowry (National Review) is on the Right. Lizz Winstead (co-creator of the Daily Show) is our special guest.
