George Takei may be the galaxy’s most famous helmsman, but there’s more to his life than his years aboard the USS Enterprise. A new documentary by filmmaker Jennifer Kroot explores Takei’s life from his childhood in an internment camp during WWII to his recent years as an activist for LGBT rights and marriage equality. Takei tells Kim Masters how Kroot convinced him to be involved in the documentary and how they were able to get William Shatner to sit for an on-camera interview.
