Bennett Miller makes movies that are all based on real events and real people, from Capote, to Moneyball, and now, Foxcatcher, starring Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo and Channing Tatum. Carell plays John du Pont, a millionaire who invites champion wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum) to his estate to train for the 1988 Olympics, a move that ultimately ends in tragedy. "These are not stories of ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances," he says of his charismatic characters, "These are people who are outsiders." Also, how late director Mike Nichols' theory of The Wizard of Oz helped convince him to do Moneyball.
