Dan Gilroy: Nightcrawler
With Nightcrawler, longtime screenwriter and first time director Dan Gilroy wrote a script that broke with all of the narrative tropes that studios suggest.

For writer/director Dan Gilroy, Nightcrawler is about the dog eat dog nature of this country today, where people are struggling in order to find their passion and make a living. But unlike a lot of eager young millennials searching for careers, Gyllenhaal's Lou is a maladjusted sociopath. Gyllenhaal lost thirty pounds to play the role, often biking or running to and from the set every day. Still, Gilroy says, "I approach the film as a success story." Bloom may be a psycho, but he's still relatable.
