FROM THIS EPISODE

Instead of requiring students to buy a book for $180, a math professor at Cal State Fullerton assigned one that goes for $76 and another that's free. But the expensive text was written by two senior department officials, and the professor's in trouble. We preview a faculty hearing set for tomorrow.

Also on the program, Governor Brown won't recognize the diversity among California's Asians, and Don Mattingly won't be around to manage the Dodgers next year.

Dodger Manager Don Mattingly's Out 6 MIN, 11 SEC

With Don Mattingly as manager of the Dodgers, they haven't won a National League pennant or a trip to the World Series, but they have won three straight Western Division titles. That's a rare feat, but Mattingly won't be around to try to do even better next year, as we hear from Bill Shaikin, who covers the team for the LA Times.

Assembly Bill 176 was supported by the legislature’s black and Latino caucuses — and by many other ethnic groups in a state that is rapidly diversifying. It would have recognized the distinctions between people of different national origins, now all categorized as "Asians." Governor Brown vetoed the measure.
