FROM THIS EPISODE

After two years as Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti claims a list of concrete accomplishments when it comes to the details of city services and the use of data to measure success.  What he hasn’t done is paint a Big Picture of what he wants America’s second-biggest city to look like.  On the second anniversary of his swearing in, we ask him, "Mr. Mayor, which way LA?"

Also, if Disneyland had to pay the same taxes as every other business, would it be good for the future of Anaheim?

Mayor Eric Garcetti: Two Years and Counting 16 MIN, 45 SEC

It's been two years to the day since Los Angeles' current Mayor was sworn into office. Since then, Eric Garcetti has focused on a host of specific projects, including water conservation, increasing the minimum wage, providing body cams for the LAPD, and restoring the Los Angeles River. He's made good on his promise to be LA's first "high-tech mayor," monitoring fire-department response times and other city services and providing public access to municipal data. But, compared to past mayors of America's second-largest city, he has not used the bully pulpit very much. Is it time for what former President H.W. Bush once called "the vision thing?"

Disneyland Seeks 30-Year Tax Exemption 11 MIN, 13 SEC

In 1996, Disneyland worked out a deal with the City of Anaheim. The Happiest Place on Earth was made exempt from an entertainment tax for the next 20 years. Next year, that time will be over, and Disneyland wants an exemption for another several decades. We get two perspectives, from Adam Elmahrek, who covers local government and politics for the Voice of OC, and Bryan Starr, senior vice president of government affairs for the Orange County Business Council.
